In the field of antique collectibles, toys are one of the most fascinating and collected antiques of all time, but it's only in the past few decades has toy collecting has really taken off. Prior to that toys were just that - toys. Children played with them, they got worn out and were either thrown away or given to a second hand shop. At one time there were so many toys around that no one thought to save them as they were viewed as having little value. But just like anything else, when the supply dried up, the item became rare and in turn caused the value to go up. For all those that kept toys from the time when they were young, or from their parents and grandparent, today those toys could have considerable value.Today, collecting antique and vintage toys has become a fun hobby and yet for others, it's a lucrative business that requires significant investment. The rarer the toy, the more investment required to own one.
